Sun, nice temperatures, the Breitling Wingwalkers and the Aerostars, great recipe for an airshow.
This airshow was held in honour of the 13th lustrum of the VSV "Leonardo da Vinci" which is the fraternity of the space and aviation department of the Technical University at Delft. The airshow was organised together with Seppe airport.

On the field alot of different things could be seen, varrying from static planes, among some of which were participants of the airshow, but also some small race cars.
The sun really helped the airshow as it was a great day to go to an airshow, the only drawback being that the sun was in the front of the crowd.
Another thing that caught my attention is the distance from the aircraft doing a display to the crowd, normally the planes are 150 meters away from the crowd, now that number changed to 300 meters, which makes photography or videography really hard, unless ofcourse you have a huge telelens.
Most participants are a familiar sight at an airshow in the Netherlands, like the Robin 2160, the Fokker Four and planes of SKHV (Stichting Koninklijke Luchtmacht Historische Vlucht).
The real stars of the show were the Breitling Wingwalkers and the Aerostars.
The Breitling Wingwalkers, flying Boeing Stearmans, didn't dissapoint. Martyn Carrington and David Barrell are the pilots of these planes and Stella Guilding and Danielle Hughes are the girls that do the daring stuff on top of the wing. Something I wouldn't do myself. The Aerostars are a team of passionate pilots who fly the Yak-50, a plane developed for aerobatic championships, from Russia. Great opposite passes, even including some with 2 planes on the left and 1 on the right, which makes for an original display.
Facilities were top notch, plenty of toilets (be it that you had to pay for it), plenty of food and drinks and lots of people that have a passion for aviation.
A shame the airshow only drew about 5000 visitors, despite the low visitor numbers the show will be back in 2012.
A big thanks to the organisers for their kindness and hospitality. See you in 2012. |
